Things to do and see in the area, with approximate drive times listed from the hotel:
- Legoland California (10 minutes Northeast) – Amusement Park and Water Park
- Moonlight Beach (15 minutes South) – Great family-friendly beach with volleyball, bonfire pits, concessions stand, playground, and free parking
- Sea World San Diego (30 minutes South) – Amusement Park
- Balboa Park (30 minutes South) – A nice area which includes the San Diego Zoo, Japanese Friendship Garden, shopping, restaurants, and several museums (San Diego Air & Space, Fleet Science Center, Veterans Museum, etc.)
- Old Town San Diego (30 minutes South) – Historic state-protected landmark commemorating the early days of the City of San Diego, featuring restaurants, museums, and the Mexican commercial corner. A favorite of ours is Old Town Mexican Cafe, especially if you like handmade tortillas and carnitas (pork). Come to Old Town for the food, and stay for the shopping!
- La Jolla (40 minutes South) – Visit La Jolla Cove, see and smell the seals at Children’s Pool, and kayak the La Jolla Caves
- Mission Bay (40 minutes South) – Beaches, boardwalk, water activities, and rides & attractions at Belmont Park
- San Diego Embarcadero and Seaport Village (40 minutes South) – Home of great seafood restaurants, parks, USS Midway Museum, Star of India Maritime Museum, and nearby Asian Pacific Historic District (San Diego’s Chinatown) and Little Italy
- Gaslamp Quarter (40 minutes South) – Famous for nightlife in the heart of downtown San Diego
- San Diego Zoo Safari Park (45 minutes East) – Formerly known as the San Diego “Wild Animal Park,” this is where the big animals stretch their legs and roam the 1,800-acre zoo
- Point Loma, Harbor Island, Shelter Island (50 minutes South) – Home to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse and Cabrillo National Monument
- Coronado Island (50 minutes South) – Where Main Street meets bare feet; a unique island in San Diego Bay which is home to beaches, shopping, fine dining, and the historic Hotel Del Coronado
- Disneyland (about 1 hour 20 minutes North) – Mickey Mouse and friends are less than an hour and a half away in nearby Orange County
