Halawa Dojo

Shimoko Sensei, began his martial arts training in 1969 while stationed in Vietnam. He trained in Taekwondo with the South Korean military instructors.
Shimoko Sensei began training in the IKL karate system in 1971 and received Shodan in 1976. Meanwhile, he continued with Taekwondo under Grandmaster Min Suk Song and taught Taekwondo at military bases in the 1980’s.
In 1987, he began training in Seibukan karate under Sensei Masa Teruya and participated in tournaments with Hawaii Karate Congress. In the mid-1990s, Shimoko Sensei studied Matsubayashi karate and kobudo. Shimoko Sensei also practiced Aikido and Zen meditation at the Chozen-ji International Zen Temple.
Shimoko Sensei started Halawa Dojo in 2003. Shimoko Sensei trained at the Kahala Dojo since 1999 with Senseis Don Kida, Ron Iwata, and Jeff Hara and with Sensei Okamura at the Honbu.
