Fall Tournament Information

On Saturday, November 5, 2016, the 12th Annual International Karate League (IKL) Karate Championship was held at the Kealakehe High School Gymnasium in Kailua-Kona. The karate tournament was hosted by the International Karate League (IKL), Kona Branch, under the direction of Hanshi Julian SHIROMA. Presiding over the event was the Founder and Chief Instructor of the International Karate League, Shihan (Master) Walter K. NISHIOKA, who splits his time residing in California and Hawaii.

Approximately 100 competitors from Karate schools around the Big Island and Oahu, participated at the event. The tournament featured competition in 3 events: Kata (Forms), Kobudo (Weapons), and Kumite (Sparring). Winning the Most Outstanding Karate Competitor Perpetual Trophy was 13 year old, junior black belt Mason FUKUNAGA, of the Kailua-Kona Dojo. FUKUNAGA placed 1st in Kata Junior Black Belt, 1st in Kobudo Junior Advance, and 1st in Kumite Intermediate/Advance Older Junior Boys.

Winning the Most Outstanding Dojo Perpetual Trophy was the IKL Kailua-Kona Dojo with 112 points, IKL Captain Cook was 2nd with 83 points, and IKL Keaau was 3rd with 42 points.
